Donlin Ladies Fall 09

On October 28, 2009 by vard

This past Monday I had a chance to get the girls and Connie out for an evening fall shoot.  It was probably the nicest fall day we’ve had this year.  Just a fun time chasing the girls around and practicing some shot ideas…

Studio D Photo Dot Com Ver. 4

Finally…finally finally finally!

http://www.studio-d-photo.com

Man it’s taken a long time.  Like, I meant to get this done BEFORE the season got going.  Obviously it didn’t happen.  But I have finally managed to get the new studio website up and running.  I’m pretty sure this is Version 4 since the first www.studio-d-photo.com hit the net some time ago when I still had a real job.  Let’s give it up to Dan O @ DanialOzPhoto for the first 3 iterations of the website.  He’s been my go-to homie since back in the dizzay!  Everyone should have a walking encyclopedia…just don’t take mine!  :P  DanO has been there for anything I’ve ever needed when it comes to websites and whatnot…My hat is off to your superior gray matter my friend!

There’s still a bit to do, but the basic site is up and working.  New galleries with both old and new images.  Still rockin ‘Acclimate’ from General Fuzz as the sound track to the site.  That song is still the closest thing to sound perfection my ears have ever heard!  Check it out at http://generalfuzz.com/ if a get a second…

Thanks for checkin’ out the new site…

@ The Neighbors on HELLoween!

Hey, look at this…another blog a mere week after the previous post.  I think I’m starting to get the hang of this!  :D

Each October I look forward to a few awesome things:  fall colors, shooting, Oktoberfest, shooting, partying with friends and shooting.  Workin’ up a new poster for the Studio D HELLoween Party is also always on the ‘to do’ list as well.  And HELLoween poster shooting means it’s time to call in Monica.  2 years ago I snapped a couple of images of her being ‘The Corpse Bride’.  There was no intended point to it other than I had a willing participant, workable location and a pretty rad wedding dress.  One of the images from that shoot became a poster that in turn was used as the invitation to a little shindig we put together.  Jump ahead to last year around the same time and I realized almost too late that I hadn’t done up a new invite yet.  So I called up (yelled through our shared wall) Monica and snapped a superfast headshot in my living room and whamo!, new design.  These first two images here are the party notices for ’07 & ’08.

Sheeeeeeeeeeee’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!  Here’s a few from a quick set we did today for this year’s poster.  We planned very little about this before we began shooting…much like last year.  ’Hey Monica, do you have a second?’…and boom, pictures were happening.  One or more of these will likely be the new invitation when I have a few moments to work it up.  So here’s to HELLoween and Monica…no trick, just treat!

{my bathroom, Monica’s dress, mother nature’s water, kitchen knife, a really really wide angle lens, window light and one or two on-camera (say it aint so Eddie) flash pops}

Rock on!

Highland Games ’09

On October 4, 2009 by vard

Every time I sit down to blog I realize how much I suck at blogging.  Once a month!?  Gimme a break!

There…just took a second and added a weekly blog alarm to my ever filling schedule.  So that’s the plan…to implement a weekly update on what’s going on.  1 a week isn’t my goal…it’s a minimum…if I can get a few more in from time to time, even better.

Anyway, I took a little time from editing my brains out to get together with some of my closest friends out at BriggsFarm.  Yes, the same place we enjoy our ‘start of summer’ blues festival.  Basically it goes like this;  Richard Briggs kicks everything off in July with what we refer to as BriggsFest (but what is actually called The Briggs Farm Blues Festival – just in case you’re Googling for more info on it).  After 12 years it has become a necessity on our annual calendar of fun stuff to do right here in NEPA.  Last year, Dylan, Richard’s son, decided it was time to add a summer closer to our farm party’s.  That gave birth to The Highland Games.  It’s nothing like BriggsFest, which plays host to thousands of people and a dozen blues artists over two days.  The Highland Games focus’s on eating, drinking, hanging out with awesome people and having a good time.  Ok, well, when described as such it’s exactly like BriggsFest, but WAY smaller, and only takes up 1 day of your life.  They differ in that BriggsFest is all about music, whereas The Highland Games is about throwing really heavy stuff very little distance and being very proud of it.

Doesn’t matter what really happens (although I can say from recent personal experience that it’s less fun to be on a team that is getting pounded on {and coincidentally, even worse when you’re pretty sure you’re the weakest link on the team}).  Anywho, everyone always has a rad time.  Just the way it should be.

The gnarly mohawked gent in these first three images is our fun master Mr. Dylan Briggs.

Braemar Rock On!
