Ever Wanted To Be A Mannequin…?

On December 6, 2010 by vard

This Saturday is the Victorian Nights event in downtown Berwick.  Lots of fun family stuff and a chance to get out and meet the people you live and work with every day.  Most years (every one of them before this one) I’ve wandered through town, with or without kids in tow, snap-shooting (I know, great word! :P ) the goings on.  This year I’m going to do it a bit different.  We’re setting up the street window of the studio like a big city store front and letting YOU be the mannequins!  We’ll provide Santa hats, scarves and other necessary accessories…you just bring you, some friends and some fun.

You can wear whatever you want, but we’re setting up the window for the winter/holiday feel.  Clash if you will, or dress for the part….either way is cool with me.  This is just a fun and slightly silly way to enjoy the evening and do something a little different.  And, for anyone brave enough to join in, we’ll be making the digital files available to you as well.

The job of ‘Studio D Mannequin’ is open to anyone willing to take part, but we have a few brave souls that will be filling the voids and making it a generally more eventful time.  Props to Lindsey, Brittnee, Beckie & Alexis for getting things going.  Stop down, cheer them on or bump them out and get in the window yourself.

…at least it’s something to do, right…?

(we’re also thinking of running a promo on the event night; maybe something like free prints with shoots booked that night; reduced sitting fees for appointments made then…who knows…I haven’t figured it out yet, but it’ll be something worth while, I promise! :D  Hope to see you there!) :D

Santa Speedo Run – Tomorrow!

On November 26, 2010 by vard

Headed over to the Santa Parade in a bit, but I had a few seconds for a quick post.  Tomorrow is the 2nd Annual Santa Speedo Run here in Berwick.  Last year was an amazing success with over 70 runners and hundreds of supportive spectators.  I heard a rumor that registration is about double that this year!  That’s going to make for an awesome and entertaining time.  The race starts off at Crickett’s and does a 1 mile ribbon loop through town, ending at Nespoli Jewelers (Right next door to the studio).  Click the link, get the details & we’ll see you there.  It really is a pile of fun…

I was going to post a tid bit about the upcoming Victorian Nights in 2 weeks, but I’ve got some reindeer to deliver.  Quickly, instead of running around town shooting the goings on as usual, this year we’re going to be shooting everyone that wants to stop by the studio; come down, bust a pose and we’ll get some pictures done.  It’s that easy…with one minor catch.  I’ll post what that is soon…don’t worry…it’ll be fun! :D

Have a great weekend!

Other People’s Fun

On November 21, 2010 by vard

Other people’s fun…I love being a part of it!  Even more so, I enjoy knowing creative and exciting people.  This was one of those times when I was just happy to be part of the bigger picture (it’s been a while since a good pun…gotta love ‘em).  Chantel, Luke, Kyle and Rachael all rocked my world with their desire to do something different balanced perfectly with having as much fun as possible.  This was a great shoot…truly one for the books.  Thanks guys!

Rock on!

Winter Blues Promo 2011

On November 17, 2010 by vard

We did this last year and had a great response.  Thought we’d chuck it out there again.  It’s an easy way to get some fun shots with close friends.  Drop me a line (570-752-4119) in the studio if you’re interested.  Challenge yourself.  Step out of your box and do something creative :)

Rock on!

…it’s you, not the gear…

On November 16, 2010 by vard

…just a couple of closer thoughts on the Pan.a.ce.a video shoot.

First – this was a team effort all the way around.  Jeff H was all about the nerdy support on quite a few fronts…and did some sweet audio engi-rigging as well.  Thanks Jeff.  DanO was both crucial & essential to this video ever getting done.  Without him on board it would have taken months for me to find the time to get the editing.  That, and he knows stuff I can only dream of.  More so, he’s an awesome photographer and rockin image editor.  That definitely pays off when trying to finish the look of a project.  More than most people, DanO sees images from some of the same perspectives I do (and a whole bunch I never think of).

Second – I didn’t go into 2010 thinking I’d be interested at all in shooting music videos.  After a few bands asked if I’d be interested I started realizing that always saying ‘no thanks’ might not be the best answer.  (Hmmm…might be fun?  Probably be an adventure any way you slice it…)  And, Pan.a.ce.a hadn’t ask…so I asked them.  No expectations…let’s just see what happens. I was still in possession of that little handy Panasonic GF-1 on loan from Barry & Cathy Beck.  It shoots 720HD video and kicks out images that rival any camera for quality.  Sweet…camera for shooting, funky little wide angle lens and a super heavy tripod to act as a poor man’s steadycam.  This entire video was shot with a point-n-shoot camera and it worked well for what we asked of it…

Don’t be afraid to try something based on the false limitations you put on yourself, and don’t be afraid to fail.

{this concludes our current brain-purge…back to editing}

“Don’t Walk Away” – Pan.a.ce.a – 9am!

On November 13, 2010 by vard

Just a reminder that tomorrow at 9am you’ll be able to see the music video we put together with Pan.a.ce.a for their track “Don’t Walk Away”.  What wasn’t mentioned yet was that this is NOT the track from their “Bare Bones” album.  Negative…this is with full on Les Paul crushin Pauly guitars.  Make sure you make the jump to their YouTube Channel and register beforehand….it’s only place you can hear this track right now! :D  Fist pump for exclusive! :D

Rock on!
