February Mini Shoot Promo

Tis the season when shooting has slowed to a manageable pace and I am finally catching/finishing up on last season’s edit work. I’ve got a bit left, but there’s definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. So, as life slows down just a bit I finally have time to run a promo that I’ve been wanting to for some time. The February Mini Shoot – designed around the idea that life is always more fun with more than one person. $50 for a two people, be it a couple or just friends.

Back To Work – Seniors

It’s been a bit since I’ve had a chance to post images from the ‘work’ side of shooting. This time of year the blog always suffers while I try to keep my head above water. Here’s a few from the last couple of months from some of the high school students I work with. I have another post with more seniors coming ASAP, as well as weddings and ‘everything else’ in the not too distant future.

Rain Boots, Popcorn and The Hat Dress

Sitting up tonight stoked for tomorrow. I’m headed down to Philadelphia to hang with DanO and to see The Flash Bus Tour stop. I don’t do a lot of photo seminars, not because I don’t enjoy them, it’s just a time thing. But when The Flash Bus Tour was announced it was pretty obvious I needed to make it. David Hobby and Joe McNally are two rockstar photographers that spend quite of bit of time shooting small lights in big ways. I’ve learned a lot from these guys over the last few years and it’ll be pretty RAD to catch a lesson in person. Can’t wait!

Other stuff: I’ll be adding a new section to the blog soon called, at least for now, ‘Artist Articles’. The basic idea with the AA’s will be to introduce whoever reads this blog to some of the people that inspire me outside of photography. They’ll definitely have a heavy lean towards music, as I find a lot of inspiration in not only the music itself but what it takes to WANT to be a musician. Hope to have the first of these up in the next couple of weeks.

I’ll also be moving forward with my ‘off-season’ shooting project soon. Once that’s moving I’ll have piles to blog over about a 12 week period…or as long as it takes to get the first series done. The concept is cool…here’s to hoping I can pull it off the way I see it in my head.

…and I should have some info about the 300 Almost Naked People II shoot soon as well. We’ll have some fun for a good cause all over again!

So, before I pack it in I wanted to quickly post some shots I did recently with Christina. She’s crazy fun in front of the camera – VERY ENERGETIC – and ready to go that extra bit to make an image cool. She rocked a collection of hats into a dress just for the shoot! Dig it!

Wanted to post a quick reminder about the Winter Promo. It ends in a few weeks – so, if you’re thinking about it, act on it! Shot one of these yesterday with a crew of 4 crazy ladies…always a great time.

I’ve had a few calls about scheduling for this summer…yes, we DO book up pretty fast. The sooner you call, the more options you have for appt times. In a small attempt to push things a long anyone booking a $500 or above SENIOR PICTURE shoot in May will receive a FREE 16×20 print…that’s it…shoot in May, get big print from said images…

…now, back to editing!

Collaborative Efforts

A few months ago I got a random email from a past client asking about an art project she was doing, and would I be interested in taking part. After listening to what she wanted to do there was no way I could pass it up. The story goes that she (Talia) hit on this entire idea in a dream; rad! She emailed me, laying out her master plan complete with models, a solid plan for costumes and makeup, and image ideas. That’s a pretty good recipe for a successful shoot.

Over the course of our discussions about the idea I hit on the thought of painting the studio wall and incorporating it into the shoot. This served a couple of purposes. First, it opened up more shot opportunities that could be done inside, in a climate controlled and comfortable area. It was about 25F degrees that day and staying inside was something everyone was down for. Painting the wall also fulfilled an artistic void for me…something I’ve wanted to do for a while. And that’s why collaborative art projects are a blast to be part of. I didn’t have to paint a thing. Talia took care of the models, costumes and all, I did the lighting and shooting and Maggie rocked out the paint job on the shoot wall. Talia put in some hours painting as well, and in the end the wall took about 16 hours to complete. And thankfully, I DID have my wits about me to think to video tape the whole thing – as soon as I have some time to finish the video I’ll have it posted here.

A big thank you to Talia for asking me to be part of a great concept. I sincerely look forward to our next shoot. And to Maggie for rockin out the paint job on the wall…that was WAY beyond impressive! And to Serena and Courtney – thank you both for hanging in there, freezing your butts off and bringing Talia’s dream to life.

Tilly & Ranch

Chantel & Rachael showed up last fall with 2 boys, 1 porcelain panther and a zillion great ideas. We spent the better part of a day sloshing around an abandoned carnival site; a perfect location for ‘no-rules’ shooting. We had a great time and got some killer images on top of it. My definition of a perfect day! So when the ladies rang with more ideas for another shoot I was all ears for the simple fact that they ‘get it’. They understand that images are what you put into them. They push themselves creatively, which in turn, challenges me as a photographer – and I FREAKIN love that! The further they go, the further I push…it’s a great combo and definitely makes for some of the best shooting situations you can ask for. Thank you both!

Hey Look, I Found My Blog!

2:45 in the AM is a PERFECT time to post a blog…right? I guess it’ll do when nothing else seems to work. Anyway, here’s a few from some recent shoots. I have plenty more to post in the next few weeks, both images from the everyday shooting, as well as some project stuff. Yes, 300People will finally see the light of day. I’ve been working on how to play that out for quite some time – I’ll be coming at that one from a different angle than most of my other posts…hope you enjoy it [whenever it finally hits the web]. And I’ll be spilling the beans on what I’ve concocted for this years major project shooting; less social, but not less ambitious. More on that in the coming weeks. 2010 – year in visual review

As 2010 fades into history it hit me to post a blog with images from this past year. Not an all encompassing selection by any means…but it does represent in a pretty thorough way some of the experiences I was able to take part in these past 12 months. It was a great year for shooting for sure…learned a lot, shot a lot…loved every second of it.

Here’s to another great year in 2011…enjoy!
